Vivo V20 Pro Best Review 2020-2021
The Vivo V20 Pro is the OnePlus Nord everything and then something. Indeed, on paper, it is as capable as Nord in terms of performance. Dig deeper and you’ll see the V20 Pro come out as better than two in some cases. It still has some weak areas but in my time with the V20 Pro, I have no doubt that it will be the best all-rounder smartphone for most of you. At Rs 29,990, this is the maximum round package. Vivo V20 Pro
The Vivo V20 Pro is part of the V20 series of devices and retains the same look and feel as we reviewed the VV20 a few months ago. Vivo's universal design language for 2020 smartphones is impressive, especially with its bold rectangular camera hamp. The whole of the back of this phone is an endlessly beautiful canvas that you can tirelessly look at. I mean, there are no phones in 2020, but the way I was in the V20 Pro was looked at. Apologies to all the viewers who thought I was insane.
If you bought this phone, go for the Sunset Melody color variant. With matte glass, just be surprised to see this color. The colors change at different angles and this makes my boring office hours a bit more interesting. The glossy frame helps to enhance the appeal a bit. I also found the matte rear to be push-resistant, which is a great job deal for the average oily Indian hand.
Vivo V20 ProWhen the back play is full, the front of the brain is in complete contrast. There is a conventional bathtub-style notch that holds the front camera. I would prefer the OnePlus Nord-Eski pill-shaped cutout for the cameras instead of the old style notch. It looks older than the V20 Pro front with fairly slim bezels. The combination of plastic and glass makes the phone fairly light at 170 grams - a blessing for the hands.
The display itself is good and most users should have a great viewing experience. Vivo is using a standard AMOLED display with Full HD + resolution. Refresh rates are standard at 60Hz but you get the luxury of in-display fingerprint sensor and support for HDR10 colors. Like most AMOLED displays in this price range, you can get a high-contrast viewing experience.
The characters are lively and the sharpness is great. I watched YouTube videos, social media videos and movies on Prime Video and the experience was good. IPhone grooves and gels with most applications do not come in the groove view well. The fingerprint sensor is fast but requires some improvement in detection rate.
Vivo V20 Pro Performance_
One of the title-grabbing features in the V20 Pro is the Snapdragon 765G chipset. This is the same chip that OnePlus Nord uses from us and does not give any complaint chips related to performance certificates. Therefore, I had high expectations for the V20 Pro and within 10 days I was not disappointed.
The 765G is a very capable chip and it can easily handle gaming. PUBG Mobile, the benchmark for everyone's favorite game, is no longer available and that's why I got the current popular title that caught everyone's attention, namely Jenshin Impact. The game defaulted to low graphics at launch but I was able to get a good gameplay experience in high settings with 60 cfps. The jitterbugs were noticeable. After an average of 30 minutes of gameplay, the phone stays cool to the touch.
With 8GB RAM onboard, the V20 Pro can handle a good load of multitasking. I was able to keep all the necessary applications in my office in memory for hours. I've copied text from Outlook, pasted into Word, shared screenshots with the team, and delivered a few emails from Gmail at the same time. There was no problem loading content as well as social media applications.
My only issue in the performance section is related to UI. Vivo has launched the phone with Android 11 based FunTouch OS 11 but the sample of my review is loaded with Android 10 with new Fun Touch UI. Vivo's Fantech UI is much more vibrant than ever with its graphic icons and neat menus. That said, UI is far from well-organized and there are some elements that can annoy caregivers for details.
Vivo V20 Pro
More than just the interface layout, it's the amount of Vivo's own apps as well as pre-loaded third-party apps. Overloading so many apps may seem messy, but if you fill out the application menu, you won't be bothered if you feel comfortable. There’s a lot to customize here but the theme store only offers sub-par-themes at prices.
The interface is really messy at best and I hope Vivo brings the refreshing Originos experience to the V20 Pro. Currently my choice for the best software user experience with OnePlus Nord's Oxygen experience.
The audio of the single loudspeaker is decent but the premium Vivo asks for this phone I would prefer a stereo speaker setup. I found the quality of the call was good on the earpiece and within Jio's network, I didn't face any noticeable network drop.
Vivo V20 Pro The camera_
About all the cameras of the V20 Pro and it is great than all its competitors, especially the Nord key. The rear camera setup features a 64-megapixel main sensor supported by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 2-megapixel depth camera. These are good numbers on paper and in real-world use, the experience being “okay” (lack of better words).
In daylight, the V20 Pro takes good-looking photos. Dynamic range decent and sharpness in auto mode is good for social media. It gets the detail right and the colors are not saturated excessively. Occasionally and there is a fight with exposure in the shade, I noticed the grains. I feel this is mainly due to the higher exposure of the camera. I personally prefer my photos to be natural but for Vivo’s target audience, bright photos take precedence over detail and color accuracy. If this is good enough for you, Vivo must do things right.
The same issue stands for wide-angle cameras. There is a change in color science and the 8-megapixel sensor lacks the amount that its 4-megapixel sibling can gain. Wide-angle photos sometimes look dull and the camera always tries to shoulder the ISO or exposure to make the photos look brighter. You can even get macro photos with a wide-channel camera and the result is definitely better than 2-megapixel macro sensors. Photos are really usable with good color and enough detail.
As the light level decreases, Vivo's AI algorithms try to increase the brightness level, resulting in more grain. At night, I got great for the price of the camera. Regular mode deals well with exposures and keeps colors intact. This confuses extremely bright light sources, eventually affecting the rest of the frame. Night mode deals better with brighter exposures and you’ll get great looking photos. Overall, I like the camera performance more during the day.
Vivo V20 Pro
Selfies where the V20 Pro shines. With a 44-megapixel main camera, the V20 Pro has mesmerized by the quality of the selfies. Not only the photos are very detailed but the rest of the quality is amazing. Skin tones are done great without beautiful effects when the background is exceptionally handled very well. Whatever the lighting conditions, the photos appear bright. And everyone likes bright looking selfies (I assume).
The 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera loses some of the details but maintains the same color science as well as impressive background exposure management. Portrait mode cutouts are decent but not as good as what you get on the iPhone 12 The fuzzy effect seems abrupt and parts of my hair are often cutouts. Vivo can improve here through OTA updates.
Vivo V20 Pro Battery_
The Vivo V20 Pro uses a standard Affair 4000 mAh battery and as expected it calls it a day. Under my moderate usage, which included dealing with office work in office applications, playing games for an average of half an hour, browsing social media for an average of two hours per day, some photo sessions, and making lots of calls, the V20 Pro finished about 30 percent per day. I believe that the Snapdragon 765G as a power-efficient chip with a few tweets in this software can prolong the phone.
Charging the phone is not a problem as Vivo bundles a 33W fast charger in the box. It took me an hour to recharge the battery from 30 percent which is the equivalent of most phones you can buy within this price range. I'm still damaged by Oppo and Realm's 65W charging solution that fills the battery in 30 minutes.
Vivo V20 Pro Conclusion_
In short, I like the Vivo V20 Pro a lot. Not only does it look confused with all the sensitive colors on the back, it’s just like a great selfie camera phone and V20 Pro: selfie, look and raw performance. I find these aforementioned qualities important in conversations with most people and it makes it the most round smartphone you can buy (if you agree with the public).
That said, the V20 Pro has its fair share of flaws. The user experience is far from decent and I really hope that Vivo will soon bring its new Origin OS interface to the V20 Pro. The rear cameras are almost identical to the OnePlus Nord. Night camera performance is good and I would like to see Vivo do the same in daylight. I would also like to see that Vivo is working on battery optimization because there is room for improvement.
Vivo V20 Pro
As a tech enthusiast, I would choose the V20 Pro's OpenPlus Nord. As a brand conscious buyer, it’s Nord who gets my vote. As a performance finder, my hand still reached out to Nord. However, if I want a phone with a great front camera and an eye-catching blinky design, this Vivo V20 Pro is my choice.
