Vivo Y20 Review
Vivo recently launched a mid-range segment in August and is a Y-Series (20) smartphone. Prior to this Y20, Vivo has already launched many Y series phones in the market at very affordable prices like Y50, Y11, Y90 etc. Now we will see what new or special features Vivo has added to the Y20.
Vivo Y20
Along with the Y20, Vivo has launched another model in the Y series called the Y20i. These two phones are quite similar but there are some changes in the specifications. Released in 2020, the Vivo Y20 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. And Y20 runs on Android OS V10.0. It comes with a Li-Po 5000 mAh non-removable battery. It has a 6.51-inch IPS display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a triple camera setup with 13 + 2 + 2MP - but in this competitive world of budget phone, does it justify the price?
Let's find out the details about the phone-
Vivo Y20 Design-
This year Vivo Y20 has come up with an amazing look. The selling point of this phone is basically the eye-catching design. The design of this phone is similar to Y50. It supports a 6.51-inch HD + display and a water-drop notch at the top that the center carries an 8MP selfie camera on the front. And the bezel of this phone is thin enough and the front is protected by Cornela Gorilla Glass.
Vivo Y20
It also has two SIM card slots and a microSD card slot. And on this low budget it seems to me a great advantage. Below, the phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack and a micro-USB-charging port. I think this is a bad thing for this phone. Other companies provide a Type-C port for charging in this budget.
Vivo Y20
It has a gradient color with a glossy finish on the back. The rear panel of the phone has a triple camera setup in the top left corner with LED flash. The triple camera has a 13MP main camera, 2MP macro lens and 2MP depth sensor. There is a sunlight-like design around the camera setup. There is a golden finish around the camera bumper which makes the back more shiny. However, the phone is made of plastic. This phone is available in two colors. It has been launched in Obisidian Black and Dawn White.
As it is a plastic phone, it is not scratch / smudge proof. White helps to hide finger smogs on the phone.
Vivo Y20
The physical motion of this smartphone is 164.41 x 7.00 x 6.41 mm (height x width x thickness x thickness) and the weight of the phone is 182.30 grams which is good for one hand use.
Vivo Y20 Display-
The Vivo Y20 has a 6.51-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 720x1600 pixels. It is an IPS LCD display with HD + resolution. Also, the display has a density of 260 ppi. Judging by the price offered, we can't say that this is a great display because, in this budget, we can see the full HD + display provided by other companies.
Many phones, such as the Redmi Note 5 Pro or the Zenfone Max Pro M1, even offer the new Moto G6 with higher Full HD + resolution. It is not the highest resolution display in this range.
Vivo Y20
For starters, the Vivo Y20 comes with an almost bezel-less display with a 19: 9 aspect ratio and a water-drop groove at the top of the screen that isn't too wide or deep. However it is there and you will notice it while looking at the display. But soon you will be able to use it. Being an HD + display, it doesn't make you comfortable watching movies or any kind of video. Because, in the age of this AMOLED panel, it could do users justice if it was a full HD + display. Whatever it is, it's generally a good display. The colors in the pictures / videos are bright and natural enough.
Vivo Y20 Performance-
The Vivo Y20 runs Funtuch OS 10.5 based on Android 10 and packs 64GB of inbuilt storage.
The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 processor.
Vivo Y20
The Vivo Y20 processor is powered by an octa-core processor with Qualcomm SM4250 Snapdragon 460 (11 nanometer) chipset, has a Cryo240 cortex structure with a maximum 1.6 GHz clock. Refresh rate images look extremely smooth when you switch from one application to another. This processor has a reputation for not losing a lot of battery power. Also, The Y20 mobile graphics module is equipped with an Adreno 610 graphics processor that provides a pleasing visual experience while playing games and watching media.
Vivo Y20
The Vivo Y20's entry-level and mid-range processors are also suitable for low-end gaming. You can play PUBJ with consistently high frame rates by default. By selecting the balance mode, you can play Pubji at a medium frame rate. Free Fire games run more smoothly on this phone. You can also try other high-speed games with Y20. Its 4GB RAM provides good support for multitasking and various applications.
What's more, it comes with 4GB of RAM and has 64GB of internal storage that expands up to 256GB. There are some software enhancements.
Vivo Y20 Sensors and other features-
Vivo Y2) comes with some good features and good sensors. The sensors in the phone include a fingerprint sensor, a compass / magnetometer sensor, a proximity sensor, an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor and a gyroscope. Connectivity options for the Vivo Y20 include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth V5.00, USB OTG, Micro-USB, and FM radio.
Vivo Y20 Camera quality -
The Vivo Y20 packs a triple camera set up. As for the cameras, the rear Vivo Y20 packs a 13-megapixel primary camera with an f / 2.2 aperture; Packed a second 2-megapixel macro lens with f / 2.4 aperture and a third 2-megapixel depth sensor with f / 2.4 aperture. The rear camera setup has autofocus. It sports an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies with an f / 1.6 aperture.
Vivo Y20
Overall, the camera is average when you consider the price. Portrait mode works well with the rear-facing camera and gives you manual control over settings like ISO and white balance. This camera bumper has no ultra-wide sensors. So you can't capture landscapes.
Vivo Y20
When you open the camera app, you will see many features like Portrait Mode, White Angle Shots, Micro Shots etc.
Vivo Y20
Any attempt to take pictures in low light will be noisy or abusive. Things have improved a bit by the built-in mode, it also recognizes short-light situations and tries its best to compensate. Overall, the low-light performance of the camera is poor.
Vivo Y20
To use the macro lens, you need to enable it in the camera menu. The main problem with the macro camera is that it lacks autofocus or any kind of focus assistant. This means that it is difficult to focus on the issue. Of the 15 or more images I took, only one was in focus.
Vivo Y20
And the 2 MP depth sensor is not very useful for anything. But for some people it can help to take some detailed photos.
Vivo Y20
The front camera is reasonably 8 MP. Portrait mode is available and works using face detection and computed photography as there is no front face depth sensor. This doesn’t mean the results are bad, but don’t expect the same quality as portrait shots using the rear camera. The front-facing camera also has a palm shutter mode, which triggers a timer when detecting a palm in the frame. I've used it a few times and it worked well.
Considering the value for money, the Vivo Y20's triple camera is an overall plus point of the device.
Vivo Y20 Battery life-
The Li-Po 5000 mAh, non-removable battery gives the smartphone a good battery life backup.
Vivo Y20
This Y20 phone has a huge 5000 mAh battery. What else is a gift for those who want to make their phones irreplaceable on standby? The smartphone pack comes with a 16 watt fast charger that can charge the device up to 33% in 30 minutes. Despite having a large battery, this phone does not look heavy (192.30 grams). Undoubtedly, the Vivo Y20 deserves credit for maintaining a good weight distribution at this time.
Vivo Y20
Its smart system can adjust the background power consumption for applications to extend battery life. In addition, the super power saving mode and the on-screen battery optimization function can slightly reduce the display effect of battery power saving. In this mode, you can still use six commonly used applications to meet common needs.
Vivo Y20 Conclusion-
Vivo Y20 is a budget phone. However, it also has some back side. It does not include any full HD + display. However, it has a great battery life. Its camera quality is good enough but not the best. But you must also look at the price range. For starters, This could be a good option. However, for heavy users, buying it is not a good option at all. For gamers, this is an average phone. So you can take a look at the full review and make your decision after sorting out the verification later.
